Formula 1 fans and teams are finding humor in the lengthy title of this weekend’s Grand Prix. After a week off, F1 returns to Italy for one of the sport’s most historic circuits, Imola, following a rather uneventful weekend in Miami. The Emilia-Romagna region hosts the race, which has a tragic history ingrained in F1 folklore. The track, which features sharp and narrow left-right turns and elevation changes, was first named Autodromo di Castellaccis in 1963 and is now known as Autodromo Dino Ferrari. This year’s event is titled the “Formula 1 Qatar Airways Gran Premio Del Made in Italy e Dell’Emilia-Romagna 2023 Grand Prix,” which is quite the change from the sponsorless “Azerbaijan Grand Prix” just two races ago. Even teams are getting in on the joke, with Mercedes and Haas making light of the lengthy name on social media. Despite the disappearance of classic tracks in favor of more boring circuits, legendary tracks like Imola are finding new means of sponsorship to keep up with F1’s licensing costs.
