Ex-Tottenham star Dele Alli substituted after 28 minutes to jeers as Everton loan man fails to impress for Besiktas against Turkish minnows

Dele Alli’s career continues to decline as he was booed off during an appearance for Besiktas.

The former England international was facing Turkish third division side Sanliurfaspor in the Turkish Cup in an opportunity to recapture his form after a tough start to life with the club.

However his appearance lasted just 28 minutes before he was hooked off by manager Senul Gunes and replaced by ex-Tottenham man Gedson Fernandes.

This came after Turkish giants Besiktas found themselves 2-0 down after just 15 minutes against the minnows.

Alli’s withdrawal from the action certainly paid off for Gunes, with Besiktas battling back to win the tie 4-2.

That was thanks to a brace from former Everton man Cenk Tosun, ex-Spurs man Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Netherlands’ World Cup hero Wout Weghorst, who is on loan from Championship side Burnley.

For Alli, this is just the latest in a long line of career disappointments as his potential continues to go off the rails.

Having moved to Tottenham in 2015, the midfielder was regarded as one of the hottest young talents in world football, scoring 67 goals and bagging 61 assists in 269 Spurs appearances.

As well as winning 37 England caps, Alli moved to Everton in January this year after falling down the pecking order in north London, but failed to impress in just 11 appearances for Frank Lampard’s side.

Now with Besiktas, the hope was that the 26-year-old would recapture his form away from the media glare of the English game, but based on this latest setback, it seems that the midfielder’s hopes of a career at the highest level are fading by the week.
