Luke Varney, a former Premier League star, has shared a story about how he created a lasting memory for Prince William during his stag do in Blackpool. The Prince of Wales was a surprise guest at Bloomfield Road for a Premier League game against Wolves in 2010. Varney, who spent the season on loan at Blackpool in their only year in the Prem, recalled the story during an appearance on the Undr The Cosh podcast. He explained how his family were moved from their usual seats to make way for William and his friends. Despite the pre-match distraction, Varney opened the scoring in the third minute with a sublime strike. Blackpool won the game 2-1 and Varney was later presented with the Man of the Match award by William. He embarrassed himself in response by curtsying and bowing. After the game, Varney received a letter from William saying that the event would live long in his memory.
