Club Brugge, the Belgian football club, is reportedly considering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a potential candidate for their next manager. The club is currently searching for their third manager of the season after sacking Scott Parker last month, who only lasted three months in charge. According to The Times, Solskjaer is one of the options being considered, but he is not the first choice. The ideal candidates are former Celtic manager Ronny Delia and ex-Bayern Munich assistant coach Dino Toppmoller. However, if both coaches reject the offer, Club Brugge will look at Solskjaer, who hasn’t managed since being sacked by Manchester United in November 2021.
Solskjaer was relieved of his duties last season after a 4-1 defeat at Watford, where he was replaced by Ralf Rangnick. It has been reported that Solskjaer has turned down a number of job opportunities already since leaving Old Trafford. He was in charge of the Red Devils for 168 games, winning 91 times as he guided them to second and third-placed finishes in the Premier League. However, they failed to win any silverware with United losing on penalties to Villarreal in the Europa League final in 2021.
Solskjaer has been linked with a multitude of jobs, including on these shores at Sunderland and even Gary Neville’s Salford City. But the coach has yet to take up a formal position since his departure from United. Meanwhile, Parker will need to rebuild his managerial career after winning just twice during his time in Belgium.
Top choice Delia has experience of working in the Jupiler Pro League after two-and-a-half-years at Standard Liege. As well as Celtic, the 47-year-old has also managed Manchester City’s sister club New York City FC.
