Ex-Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette set to miss pre-season friendly for Lyon after being ‘attacked by swarm of wasps in a Dutch forest’

Alexandre Lacazette looks set to miss Lyon’s pre-season friendly against Feyenoord on Sunday after reportedly suffering multiple wasp stings.

Lyon travelled to Holland as part of their pre-season preparations where they will face last season’s Europa Conference League runners-up in Rotterdam this weekend.

L’Equipe revealed the former Arsenal striker could miss the clash after he was set upon by wasps in a Dutch forest, resulting in the 31-year-old suffering around 10 stings.

Lacazette’s team-mate Moussa Dembele also fell victim to the wasp attack but his quick recovery enabled the former Celtic and Fulham striker to return to training on Thursday.

However, Lacazette’s case was deemed slightly more serious and it remains to be seen if he lines up against the Dutch giants at De Kuip on Sunday.

Should he not recover in time, the striker will get one final opportunity to fine-tune himself ahead of the new season when Lyon take on Inter Milan at the San Siro next Saturday.

Meanwhile, another returning academy graduate Corentin Tolisso will almost-certainly miss Sunday’s game due to a calf injury suffered in training.

Lyon endured a difficult campaign last time out, finishing a disappointing eighth in Ligue 1 and missing out on Europe.

Les Gones can ill-afford a repeat of last season’s exploits and moved quickly to secure the free-transfer signings of Lacazette and Tolisso in hope of avoiding another lacklustre campaign.

On his return to the Groupama Stadium Lacazette told reporters of the importance of the club’s achieving success this season despite there being no European football.

“My return has become obvious in recent weeks. Even without Europe, the project is important. The priority is above all to help the club return to the top of the bill with European qualification.”

Lacazette has already opened his pre-season account for Lyon when he netted in the 4-2 win over third-tier French side Bourg en Bresse.

The striker will be eyeing a perfect goal scoring start in Ligue 1 when Lyon host newly-promoted Ajaccio on August 5.
