Jurgen Klopp has revealed his favourite Premier League moment – and Liverpool weren’t even playing!
The Premier League is celebrating its 30th anniversary this weekend, with fans, managers and players looking back on three decades of one of European football’s greatest competitions – which kicked off in August 1992.
Great goals, memorable meltdowns and history-making titles have all helped to make the Premier League one of the top destinations for the game’s top talents.
Klopp is without a doubt one of those, with the German hailed as one of the brightest coaches in football having led Liverpool to glory in each and every club competition on offer.
The pride and joy of his silverware collection, though, will surely be the Reds’ Premier League title victory in 2019/20 – the club’s first in 30 years.
Oddly, though, Klopp’s best memory of the English top flight doesn’t actually feature his team on the pitch.
Asked for his favourite ever Premier League moment, Klopp gave a surprising answer during his press conference ahead of Monday’s clash against Crystal Palace – which is LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on talkSPORT.
“That’s easy – we didn’t even play,” said the Liverpool boss.

“It was the penalty for Chelsea, when Willian scored a penalty.
“It was against Man City, and we became champions in that moment.
“Definitely that one, yeah.”
And there’s no question why, considering the scenes in the Liverpool team hotel and outside Anfield.
Liverpool may not have been playing, but that didn’t stop the Reds players from going ballistic as the entire squad, Klopp and the manager’s staff all watched the match together.
Chelsea’s 2-1 win over City meant the title was heading back to Merseyside for the first time since the 1989/90 campaign – before the Premier League had even been formed.
The champagne was popped immediately as the Liverpool players celebrated widely into the night, the Klopp even getting involved on the dancefloor, while thousands of local supporters flocked to Anfield to enjoy the moment with red flares and banners.
“It was a mix of everything,” said Klopp as he explained the emotion of that moment.
“I remember the situation – it was a chance for Chelsea, there was shooting, blocking, there was a shout of handball and everyone was shouting in the room ‘HANDBALL!’.
“The whistle wasn’t blown immediately, but when it came, that was the first celebration.
“It’s not usually not like this. Honestly, I watch football games with other teams, I’m not involved, I couldn’t care less, I’m just analysing, watching, learning, whatever.
“But it was completely different in that moment.
“I was really hoping it would be a penalty and I was really hoping Willian kept his nerve, and when he kept it, it was my favourite Premier League moment.”
