Everton’s Successful Appeal Against Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Red Card
Everton has won their appeal against the red card shown to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in their recent match against Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old England international was sent off in the second half of the FA Cup draw at Selhurst Park following a challenge on Palace right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
Initially, referee Chris Kavanagh did not deem the tackle worthy of punishment. However, after consultation with VAR officials and a review at the pitchside monitor, the decision was made to dismiss Calvert-Lewin.
Calvert-Lewin was facing a suspension that would have caused him to miss Everton’s next three matches. However, with the successful appeal, he will now be available for selection.
Manager Sean Dyche expressed frustration with the decision and voiced his growing impatience with VAR. He argued that if slow-motion replays are used, they should be applied consistently to all incidents, including potential penalties.
Everton’s next matches are against Aston Villa on Sunday and the replay with Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on the following Wednesday.
Overall, Everton’s successful appeal provides a boost to their squad as they continue their campaign in the FA Cup and Premier League.
