Erling Haaland scores 12 minutes into Man City debut, links up with Jack Grealish, but superstar striker ‘not surprised’ to hit ground running

Erling Haaland took just 12 minutes to score his first Man City goal, but it came as no shock to him.

The £51million signing scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich at Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers.

He was helped with a cross from Jack Grealish, which Haaland was able to convert from short range.

The match was delayed for 15 minutes by a thunderstorm, and play was suspended until further notice shortly after the striker’s goal.Fans were urged to take shelter on the concourse as lightning descended on the area and players left the field.

Officials then announced a reduced game, with 27 minutes left in the first half and a 40-minute second half.

The interruptions appeared to impact both side’s momentum, with neither managing to clinch another goal over the total of 80 minutes play.

But Haaland was not surprised that he was able to get on the scoresheet so quickly since moving to the club.

He said: “As you probably all know, I’ve been watching a lot of City games for the last years. The last years have been without a striker.

“I’ve been seeing myself in situations like today, so I’m not surprised.”

Haaland has already been building a relationship with Grealish and the link-up was perhaps a sign of things to come.

He added: “He’s good, but he has to get better. I have to get better. Good link, I like the vibe around him. It’s going to be fun.”

Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund where he had a torrid record of results against Bayern Munich and he was just glad to win against the Bundesliga giants.

The Norway international said: “It’s good. First time winning against Bayern… it’s about time. Seven losses in a row. To win against Bayern feels good.

“The quality is good and it is also good to play against Bayern and have a real test for Liverpool in the week.”
