Erling Haaland continues to amaze with his record-breaking season. The Manchester City striker scored his 50th goal of the campaign in all competitions, surpassing Clive Allen’s mark of 49 goals for Tottenham back in 1986-87. This is the most goals scored by a top-flight player in 92 years, since Tom ‘Pongo’ Waring reached 50 for Aston Villa in 1930-31. Haaland has achieved this feat in just 44 games, with 34 Premier League goals, 12 in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the Carabao Cup. His manager, Pep Guardiola, was surprised by this incredible statistic and congratulated Haaland on his strong mentality.
Premier League record goalscorer Alan Shearer described Haaland as a “freak” and praised his qualities as a centre forward. He also noted that Manchester City fought hard to get him. Haaland is now looking to break the record of 34 Premier League goals in one season, which he currently shares with Shearer and Andrew Cole. He still has a potential 10 matches to play this season, and with 18 goals in his past 12 games, anything seems possible. The all-time single-season English goalscoring record is 63 goals, set by Everton’s Dixie Dean in 1927-28. This may seem impossible for Haaland to achieve, but he has already proven that anything is possible.
