Erik ten Hag to hold talks with Manchester United hierarchy on ‘what to do’ with Cristiano Ronaldo after bombshell interview with teammates ‘disappointed’ and ‘moved on’

Erik ten Hag will hold a meeting with Manchester United’s hierarchy to decide how to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell interview.

The Dutchman will have talks with chief executive Richard Arnold and director of football John Murtough on Monday after being told Ronaldo has ‘no respect for him’.

In a sensational interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV, the Portuguese superstar laid into both the club and head coach, saying he felt ‘betrayed’ and ‘disrespected’.

This comes after a start to the season where Ronaldo has been scarcely used by Ten Hag, and the club have seen an upturn in form after a shambolic worst-ever Premier League campaign last time out.

Ronaldo has been a regular distraction this year, missing the club’s pre-season, before storming down the tunnel at Old Trafford before a match against Tottenham had finished.

Despite those offences, Ten Hag had opted to reintegrate the forward into his squad, but those days may now be over.

The Telegraph reports that the United squad heard the news of Ronaldo’s interview while on the plane back from their 2-1 Premier League win over Fulham, and didn’t want it to distract from a morale-boosting late victory.

However, Ten Hag will now sit down with the club’s hierarchy to decide what steps to take next.

The outlet also claims that a number of players are ‘disappointed’ by Ronaldo’s actions this season and are ‘not allowing Ronaldo’s tantrums to distract them’.

It is also said a number of players are ‘already moving on’ from Ronaldo’s time at the club, with a source saying there won’t ‘be a tear shed’ when he leaves.

The timing of the interview comes with United not in action again until after the World Cup, with a League Cup fixture on December 19.

There will be two further fixtures before the January transfer window opens, giving both parties the opportunity to sever ties.

Whether or not the club takes action before then, remains to be seen.

Multiple reports during the summer claimed Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, held talks with the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid to try and secure a return to Champions League football.

None of those pitches came off though, with Ronaldo now claiming ‘some people don’t want me here, not only this year but last year too’.
