Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has identified three areas of his squad that he wants to strengthen this summer in order to continue his rebuild at the club.
The Red Devils were beaten by Newcastle United on Sunday, which saw the Magpies leapfrog Ten Hag’s side into third.
United’s top four hopes are now under threat after picking up just one point from their last nine.
They can qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League and it’s paramount for United to get qualification in order to attract their top targets.
Ten Hag wants a top class centre forward, a box-to-box midfielder and a new right-back to revamp his squad.
Harry Kane, 29, is United’s top target in attack but Spurs want £100m+ to part with the England captain and Daniel Levy is a notoriously difficult negotiator.
Victor Osimhen, the Napoli forward, is an alternative target and, at five years Kane’s junior, he arguably represents better value.
In midfield, United would ideally love to sign Frenkie de Jong but the Dutchman has made it clear he’s happy in Barcelona.
Jude Bellingham is another ideal target but competition for the Englishman is fierce, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid all interested.
Obtaining a centre forward and a midfielder is considered a priority and should Ten Hag sign both players, he will then assess his budget to see if it could stretch to signing a new right-back.
Diogo Dalot’s form has collapsed since the turn of the year as the full-back’s struggled with injury.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made an unlikely turnaround at the club and is arguably now first choice, given Dalot’s form.
But United will consider cashing in on the former Crystal Palace ace in order to sign a more attack-minded right-back, according to the Athletic.
United must be wary of Financial Fair Play regulations, having spent £220m last summer.
