# Aaron Wan-Bissaka Set to Trigger 12-Month Extension Clause in Manchester United Contract
Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his contract, according to reports. The right-back joined United from Crystal Palace for a fee of £45m in 2019 and has been a mainstay under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, when Ralf Rangnick was appointed last summer, Wan-Bissaka didn’t make an appearance until December. United explored a deal for Jeremie Frimpong in January but the Glazers were reluctant to release funds, which forced Rangnick into two loan deals for Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer.
Now, it appears Erik ten Hag has decided to keep Wan-Bissaka and has advised the club to trigger the 12-month extension clause in the defender’s contract. Ten Hag has dropped plans to sign competition for Diogo Dalot as Wan-Bissaka forced his way into the starting line-up towards the end of the season, and he even started the FA Cup final.
The Sun claim Ten Hag now wants to keep Wan-Bissaka as he’s part of his long-term plans. The defender’s current contract expires next summer, at which point he will become a free agent. Wan-Bissaka could sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1st if his situation continues.
But it’s reported that United will trigger a 12-month extension clause in his deal before sitting down to discuss an extension. This will give both parties more time to negotiate a new deal, and it appears Ten Hag is keen to keep the 23-year-old at Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen whether Wan-Bissaka will sign a new deal with United, but it looks like he will be staying at the club for at least another year. The defender has been impressive for United since joining from Crystal Palace and has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.
