Erik ten Hag issues warning to Manchester United players after Jadon Sancho row
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has issued a warning to his players after his falling out with Jadon Sancho. The playmaker has been left out of United’s squad to take on Brighton after he accused Ten Hag of making him a ‘scapegoat’. Though Sancho has since deleted the accusations on Twitter, he’s refused to publicly apologise for his remarks.
The 23-year-old has accused Ten Hag of double standards, and feels there are inconsistencies in his treatment of the winger compared to other members of the squad. Ten Hag insists there is a good mood among the squad, and United need a win against Brighton at Old Trafford after a mixed start to the campaign.
Rasmus Hojlund could make his full debut after a promising cameo appearance against Arsenal before the international break. But, in a thinly-veiled message to Sancho, Ten Hag says Hojlund is the perfect example of how his players must be ready to commit to the cause no matter their level of involvement.
Hojlund Could Make His Full Debut Against Brighton
We have picked up a few injuries already this season and hopefully no more have developed during the international break, but any player’s absence always means there will be opportunities for others to impress. That is particularly the case now that we have added some new faces to the squad. Since our last home game, Sofyan Amrabat, Altay Bayindir and Sergio Reguilon have all arrived at the club, while Jonny Evans has returned for a second spell.
“We are all very pleased with what they will bring to the group. We want to perform well in every competition and our squad feels stronger and better equipped to do that with our recent arrivals on board. We have already seen Rasmus Hojlund make his debut at Arsenal and in the 30 minutes he had on the field, I was happy with the positive impact he had on our game.”
Ten Hag Insists Players Must Be Ready To ‘Play Their Part’
“That is what I want to see from any player involved in the first team; whether they play for 100 minutes or come on for the last few seconds, they must always look to have the right effect on how the game is developing. What we are hoping to achieve will require the whole squad over the course of the entire season, so every player needs to be totally ready to play their part, both totally and beyond.”
Ten Hag’s comments come as a warning to all of his players that they must be ready to commit to the cause no matter their level of involvement. With United looking for a win against Brighton, it will be interesting to see who Ten Hag chooses to start and who will be left out of the squad.
