Manchester City are on track to achieve a historic European treble, but they will have to overcome the only English team to have ever achieved the feat, Manchester United. United secured their place in the FA Cup final by beating Brighton on penalties at Wembley, where they will face their city rivals in the showpiece event of the domestic football calendar. Meanwhile, City could win another Premier League crown this season and are also in contention for their first Champions League title after beating Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. If they can beat Real Madrid in the final four, they will face a Milan club in Istanbul. However, in between these two events is the FA Cup, which offers City the chance to seal a treble that has only ever been achieved once before by an English side, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team in 1999. City may be the best bet to achieve this feat and stick the knife into their rivals just as they appeared to be on the rise under Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman, however, is aware of what is at stake and is focused on winning the final against City.
