Erik ten Hag suggests Manchester United’s style of play will change with Rasmus Hojlund signing
Manchester United completed a £62m deal for Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund earlier this month, in a move that could be worth up to £72m. The Denmark international is currently sidelined with a back issue that will prevent him from making his debut until September. But Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils’ manager, has suggested Hojlund’s arrival can help United play a more ‘proactive’ style of play.
The New Signings
The other new players Ten Hag spoke about are Mason Mount and Andre Onana, who have arrived from Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively. Ten Hag says the pair are already settling in at the Theatre of Dreams.
‘As well as the Premier League, we also have to give ourselves the best chance of performing in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, so each player will be needed at various times. It’s an advantage for us to have the option of different approaches because we know we will be tested in different ways in every game we play. Our new signings will help with that. You have already seen Onana and Mount in action during pre-season and it’s quite clear that they both bring new dimensions to our approach.’
A Proactive Style of Play
Ten Hag says Hojlund’s arrival can help United play a more ‘proactive’ style of play. ‘I am also very pleased to have signed Rasmus Hojlund because he can make a real difference to the way we attack,’ Ten Hag wrote in his programme notes ahead of the game against Wolves. ‘Fundamentally, we want to be a proactive, hungry team, constantly causing problems for the opposition with or without the ball. The energy and quality brought by our new players will be a big factor in doing that.’
A Bright Future Ahead
The signings of Hojlund, Mount and Onana suggest that Manchester United are looking to the future and are ready to challenge for silverware this season. With Ten Hag at the helm and these three players in the squad, United fans can be optimistic about their team’s chances this season.
