Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his satisfaction with the progress Amad Diallo has made while on loan at Sunderland this season. The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international has been in impressive form for the Black Cats, scoring 13 league goals as they qualified for the play-offs, where they will take on Luton in the semi-finals. Ten Hag believes that the purpose of sending young players out on short-term deals is to help them develop and progress, and Diallo is achieving exactly that at the Stadium of Light. When asked if Diallo has a future with Manchester United, Ten Hag said: “Yes, of course, we loan such players to make development and progress to bring them back, that is the aim of the loan. They are really strong, we mentor them, we follow them, we have communication over the season, especially Darren Fletcher, who invests a lot in such a process. The aim is to bring them back as a better player with experience.”
Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has also given an insight into United’s plans for Diallo after their elite player performance manager, Les Parry, visited him recently. Mowbray believes that Man United are happy with Diallo’s loan at Sunderland and that the next step is for them to take him on pre-season to America. He added that the new manager needs to watch him in action and feel what he brings before making a decision on his future.
