Manchester United confirm Casemiro injury blow as midfielder set to miss several weeks
Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Casemiro will be unavailable for ‘several weeks’ due to a hamstring injury. In the latest headache for manager Erik ten Hag, the Brazilian picked up the issue in the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in midweek and the injury is serious enough to keep him out for a significant period of time.
In a statement issued on Friday, the club confirmed: ‘Casemiro will be out for several weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered during our Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday. The Brazilian midfielder was withdrawn at half-time due to the issue, and subsequent assessment has revealed a strain that will keep him out for a number of weeks.’
How long will Casemiro be out?
The statement suggests that Casemiro could miss at least the rest of November, with five matches to come before the end of the month. The Red Devils take on Fulham, Luton Town and Everton in the Premier League this month, with two away trips in the Champions League, at Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
The busy period continues into the following month when Manchester United face four games from 2-12 December. A trip to Newcastle is followed by home clashes with Chelsea, Bournemouth and Bayern Munich, which Ten Hag will be desperate to have the former Real Madrid man back for.
Who else is out injured?
Casemiro joins the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia on the sidelines through injury, while Jason Sancho remains unavailable due to a disciplinary issue.
What have Manchester United said?
A Manchester United spokesperson said: “We wish Casemiro a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back in action soon.”
What next?
Manchester United will be hoping that Casemiro can make a swift return to action as they look to continue their impressive start to the season. The Red Devils currently sit top of the Premier League table and are well-placed in their Champions League group.
Ten Hag will now have to make do without one of his most important players for the next few weeks, but he will be hoping that his side can continue their good form despite the absence of Casemiro.
