Erik ten Hag Hints at New Role for Man Utd Summer Signing

Erik ten Hag confident Sofyan Amrabat can thrive in multiple roles at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Sofyan Amrabat can thrive in a number of roles at the club, including at full-back.

Amrabat joined United on the final day of the summer transfer window, arriving on loan from Fiorentina in a deal that can be made permanent next summer.

An injury which ruled him out for Morocco during the recent international break means the 26-year-old will not be available to make his debut against Brighton on Saturday.

Amrabat Can Play Multiple Roles

But ten Hag believes his latest arrival can offer an alternative to Casemiro in a holding midfield role, also insisting he has the ability on the ball to play alongside the Brazilian.

United have problems at left-back with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia injured with November a possible return date for both players.

Diogo Dalot has been moved over to the left in their absence with Sergio Reguilon brought in on loan from Tottenham.

While he will be expected to have an impact in the middle of the park, ten Hag says Amrabat could have a role to play in either full-back role this season.

“Tomorrow he is not available. But what we missed in our squad was behind Casemiro, a typical holding midfielder,” ten Hag said. “So with him, we have that. You see the overload in games so we need that type.

“But also Amrabat can play alongside Casemiro because he is capable of playing in a higher position on the pitch and even he can play as a wing back or a full back.”

Injury Update

With Amrabat set to miss the visit of Brighton, United also remain without Mason Mount and Raphael Varane but Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof are expected to be fit for the visit of the Seagulls after both were forced off in the defeat to Arsenal.

Antony will not be involved with the winger on a mutually agreed leave of absence following domestic abuse allegations.

Jadon Sancho has also been sidelined as the result of his public spat with the United boss.

Erik ten Hag is confident that Sofyan Amrabat can make an impact in multiple roles at Manchester United, including at full-back. While Amrabat is set to miss the visit of Brighton due to injury, United also remain without Mason Mount and Raphael Varane. Antony and Jadon Sancho are also unavailable for selection.
