Eric Dier holds showdown talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy over future
Tottenham defender Eric Dier has held showdown talks with chairman Daniel Levy over his future at the club. The England defender has been frozen out by Ange Postecoglou following the Australian’s appointment in north London.
Dier hasn’t been named in the squad for Spurs’ first five matches of the season, in either the Premier League or the Carabao Cup. The 29-year-old has a year left on his deal at the club but he rejected a loan move to Burnley in August.
Dier’s Lifeline
But, with Davinson Sanchez leaving the club, Postcoglou has been left short of back-up in defence. It has thrown Dier a lifeline and though the transfer markets in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open, the defender is keen on remaining in London.
That’s led to Dier holding crunch talks with Levy over his future, to determine where he stands at the club. Hugo Lloris, who has failed to secure a move away from the club this summer, held talks with Levy in August to understand his position.
Levy’s Role
As Postecoglou is the head coach, it’s not uncommon for Levy to handle the futures of the playing squad. With Dier’s future still up in the air, it remains to be seen what Levy and Postecoglou decide is best for both parties.
Conclusion
It’s clear that Eric Dier’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is still uncertain. With his talks with chairman Daniel Levy, it remains to be seen what will happen next. Will he stay at Spurs or will he move on? Only time will tell.
