Nuneaton Borough Faces Liquidation After Withdrawing from League
Nuneaton Borough, a non-league football club, is on the brink of liquidation after pulling out of the Southern Central Premier League. This decision comes after the club was served an eviction notice from their stadium in November.
In a recent statement, Nuneaton Borough announced that they are facing “insurmountable challenges” in maintaining operations and are now considering the liquidation process. The club’s attempts to regain access to their Liberty Way ground have failed, leading to their potential liquidation for the third time in their history.
The club expressed their regret in withdrawing from this season’s Southern Central Premier League, citing the inability to secure a new lease or purchase Liberty Way. Despite efforts from sponsors and officials, the club is unable to continue trading without additional financial support or new investors.
Nuneaton Borough expressed gratitude for the support of their loyal fans and the football community during this difficult time. However, the club’s future remains uncertain as they await a response from the league regarding their decision.
Former Premier League striker Leroy Lita, captain Scott McManus, forward Matt Stenson, and manager Jimmy Ginnelly have all departed from the club in recent weeks. According to CoventryLive, additional players, including player-manager Kyle Storer, left on Wednesday.
Nuneaton Borough has a long history, originally founded as Nuneaton St Nicholas FC in 1899. They reformed as Nuneaton Borough in 1937 and went through multiple liquidations and name changes over the years. The club’s Liberty Way ground was purchased by Arden Tigress in 2019 and remains under their ownership.
Despite the challenges they currently face, Nuneaton Borough hopes to find a solution and continue their football legacy.
