England World Cup 2022 squad and starting XI odds: Harry Maguire, Declan Rice and Mason Mount odds-on to make team sheet in Qatar

England’s World Cup squad will be announced soon and Gareth Southgate is going to have an impossible task on his hands in selecting the team sheet.

It’s impossible to keep all fans happy and also bring along all in-form players, but the odds suggest Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling will feature in the first starting XI.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is 11/10 with Betfair to start against Iran in England’s opening World Cup fixture and all eyes will be on his form and Southgate’s plans as the England manager prepares to name his Nations League squad, which will be the final chance for fringe players to earn their spot on the plane to Qatar.

Harry Maguire is among the most likely starters in defence at 4/9, while John Stones 1/25, Ben Chilwell 4/7 and Reece James 5/6 – while Kyle Walker is 10/11.

Jordan Pickford is the 1/3 favourite to start in goal, ahead of Aaron Ramsdale, 5/2 and Nick Pope 5/1.

Declan Rice and Mason Mount are among the market leaders to start in England’s first World Cup at 2/9, with Harry Kane also one of the first names on the team sheet at 1/14.

Kalvin Phillips, 8/15 and Jude Bellingham, 6/4 will be another two stars that Gareth Southgate will be looking at putting on the team sheet with Rice and Mount.

Raheem Sterling, 4/9, Phil Foden, 5/6 and Bukayo Saka, 21/10 are the clear favourites alongside Kane when it comes to forwards.

Ivan Toney has already scored five times in the Premier League this season and is 14/1 to start for England in Qatar. Other outsiders include Marc Guehi: 11/2, Harvey Elliott at 20/1 and James Maddison at 50/1.

England are third favourites to win the World Cup at 13/2 behind 5/1 favourites Brazil. France are next at 11/2 with Betfair  and Argentina are 13/2.
