England v Iran LIVE commentary: Three Lions to begin quest for World Cup glory in Doha – date, kick-off time and how to listen

But they’ll have to get to grips with all the oddities and complications that the 2022 World Cup has thrown up.

First, England will meet Iran in their Group B opener in Doha.

Carlos Queiroz’s ‘Team Melli’ topped their qualification group ahead of South Korea and will be no pushover in a tricky-looking opener for the Three Lions.

It’s been 56 years since England won their only World Cup crown to date and Southgate will be eager to change that having gone close in Russia in 2018.

But the England boss will also know he’s under pressure to perform in what could be his last competition at the helm.

talkSPORT will be in Qatar to bring you all the action as England look to get up and running with a win.

We’ll have all 64 World Cup games live this winter so you won’t miss a second of the feast of football.
