# England Reach First Women’s World Cup Final After Beating Australia 3-1
England have made history by becoming the first team to reach the Women’s World Cup final after beating Australia 3-1 in Sydney. Goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo sealed the victory for the Lionesses and sent them into the final against either Sweden or the Netherlands.
The match was a tense affair with both teams creating chances throughout the game. Australia had the first chance of the match when Sam Kerr had a shot saved by England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley. England then took control of the game and opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Toone fired home from close range.
Australia then equalised in the 33rd minute when Kerr scored from the penalty spot. The Lionesses then regained their lead in the 42nd minute when Hemp scored with a powerful header. The game was put beyond doubt in the 79th minute when Russo scored with a superb strike from outside the box.
The win was a historic moment for England and manager Phil Neville, who said: “I’m so proud of this team and what we have achieved. We have worked hard to get to this point and now we have the chance to make history in the final.”
The Lionesses will now face either Sweden or the Netherlands in the final on Sunday 7th July. Both teams are strong contenders and will be looking to win their first ever Women’s World Cup title.
England have been one of the standout teams at this year’s tournament, playing some excellent football and showing great spirit and determination throughout. They have also been backed by huge numbers of fans, both at home and in France, who have been cheering them on every step of the way.
The Lionesses will now be hoping to go one step further and lift the trophy on Sunday. It will be a tough task but if they can replicate their performance against Australia, they will have a great chance of making history.
