England and Scotland are gearing up for their Euro 2024 campaign, and as the tournament approaches, the focus shifts to their respective basecamps during their stay in Germany.
England’s basecamp is located in Blankenhain, close to the center of Germany in the state of Thuringia. This luxury accommodation is situated roughly an hour and a half’s drive from Leipzig, where England will be playing their three group stage matches. The Three Lions will face Serbia on June 16 in Gelsenkirchen, Denmark on June 20 in Frankfurt, and Slovenia on June 25 in Cologne. The choice of Blankenhain as their basecamp provides easy access to these venues, allowing the team to minimize travel time and maximize preparation.
The Golfresort Weimarer Land, where England will be staying, offers more than just a golfing experience. With two 18-hole courses and a nine-hole course, the players can indulge in their downtime. However, the focus remains on the football pitches available for training purposes. The resort boasts one and a half football pitches, making it an ideal location for training camps. Additionally, there is a state-of-the-art gym, wellness center, spa, and leisure facilities such as snooker, table football, and table tennis. The resort also provides several conference rooms for video analysis and team talks. With seven on-site restaurants, the players have plenty of catering options to choose from. The accommodation features 94 rooms, suites, and family suites, with a price of around £300-per-night.
On the other hand, Scotland has chosen the Obermuhle Hotel in the picturesque Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen as their basecamp. Situated close to the south German border, this hotel offers stunning views of the Alpine scenery, including the famous Mount Wank. Despite its amusing name, Mount Wank provides a breathtaking backdrop for the Scottish team. The summit, at 1780 meters, can be reached via the Wankbahn cable car. Up there, players can enjoy Bavarian cuisine at the renowned Wankstüberl restaurant. However, the remote location of their basecamp raises some eyebrows. It is a seven-hour drive from Cologne, where Scotland will face Switzerland on June 19. The distance of 418 miles makes it closer to Milan in Italy or Bern in Switzerland than to their match venue.
While the choice of basecamps for England and Scotland may differ, both teams have considered factors such as proximity to match venues, training facilities, and leisure amenities. These factors play a crucial role in ensuring the teams’ preparation and well-being during the tournament. By selecting suitable accommodations and locations, both England and Scotland aim to create an environment conducive to their success on the pitch. As the Euro 2024 draws nearer, the anticipation grows, and fans eagerly await the performance of these two national teams in Germany.
