Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has urged Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti to apply for the vacant Chelsea job and slammed Stamford Bridge co-owner Todd Boehly. Petit believes Ancelotti, who guided Chelsea to a Premier League-FA Cup double in 2010, would be the perfect fit for the club. However, Ancelotti has said he won’t return to England or Chelsea.
Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino are said to be the frontrunners for the job, but Petit hopes Ancelotti returns. Chelsea’s season is effectively over after their Champions League exit, as they are just 11th in the table, closer to the relegation zone than the top-four. Petit believes that this season could be a transition season for them and they need to make the right decisions at the end of the season.
Petit also slammed Chelsea chief Boehly, who has spent almost £600m on new signings since taking over the club and gone through two managers this season. He believes that it is impossible to manage a club with 35 international players in the squad and that they need to clean up the dressing room at the end of the season. Chelsea return to Premier League action next Wednesday against west London rivals Brentford.
