Saturday’s Premier League match between Leeds United and Newcastle United ended in a 2-2 draw at Elland Road. The match was marred by an incident in injury time when a pitch invader confronted Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe. The man grabbed Howe’s arm and pushed him in the chest before Newcastle’s coaching staff intervened and the man was led away by security. Howe said of the incident: ‘That was a real surprise, I was concentrating on the game. It was the last thing I was expecting.’
Leeds got off to the perfect start as Luke Ayling put Sam Allardyce’s side ahead in the seventh minute. Two penalties from Callum Wilson then gave Newcastle the lead but Rasmus Kristensen’s equaliser with 11 minutes remaining rescued a point for Leeds, who also had Junior Firpo sent off in injury time.
The result leaves Leeds 18th in the Premier League and a point behind 17th-placed Everton, who play Manchester City on Sunday. Newcastle, meanwhile, remain third in the table following the draw at Elland Road and seven points from their remaining three Premier League games will be enough to secure a top-four finish.
