Eddie Howe, manager of Newcastle United, has stated that the club is financially unable to sign superstar players such as Paris St-Germain’s Neymar and Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo. This has led to speculation that the Magpies could be looking to acquire the services of either player. Howe has said that the club cannot afford the transfer fees and wages associated with such players, and so they must look for younger players to develop. Since the takeover, Newcastle have spent around £250m on signings such as Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman, Nick Pope and record purchase Alexander Isak. This has helped the team to third in the Premier League with five games left this season, as they look to secure qualification for the Champions League. Howe has stated that it is not just a case of picking a name and bringing them in, but rather there needs to be a lot of thought put into what the club is doing financially and in terms of the players they are looking to bring in. He added that both Neymar and Ronaldo are incredible players, but that Newcastle are linked with different names. The Magpies will face Arsenal at home on Sunday (16:30 BST).
