Sheffield United legend Eddie Colquhoun has sadly passed away at the age of 78. The Scotsman made an impressive 433 appearances in central defence for the Blades between 1968 and 1978. His commitment to the team was evident and his legacy will live on in the hearts of the fans. Paul Heckingbottom, the current manager of Sheffield United, spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield about Colquhoun saying, “He was a real stalwart here and I think the fans could relate to the way he played. There’ll be a lot of fans at the game [on Tuesday against Bristol City] who will have watched him and he’ll have been one of their favourite players.”
Colquhoun was also a Scotland international, representing his country nine times. After leaving Bramall Lane, he finished his professional career in America before returning to South Yorkshire after retirement. His grandson, Ben Wiles, is a midfielder for Rotherham United and is carrying on the family legacy in football.
Eddie Colquhoun was an integral part of Sheffield United and his contribution to the team will not be forgotten. He will be remembered fondly by the fans and his family for years to come.
