Liverpool 2-0 Everton: Sean Dyche Slams Referee for Not Giving Ibrahima Konate Second Yellow Card
Everton head coach Sean Dyche was left fuming after referee Craig Pawson failed to give Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate a second yellow card for his challenge on Beto during Saturday’s Premier League match. The match ended with a 2-0 win for Liverpool, but Dyche was left frustrated by the decision not to give Konate a second yellow card.
The incident occurred in the first half of the match, when Konate brought down Beto with a sliding tackle. Pawson initially gave Konate a yellow card, but Dyche felt that the challenge warranted a second yellow card and a red card.
“It was an incredible decision not to give him a second yellow card,” said Dyche. “It was a clear foul and it should have been a red card. It was a clear opportunity to send him off and the referee chose not to do so.”
Dyche’s comments were echoed by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who said that the referee had made a mistake in not giving Konate a second yellow card. “It was a clear foul and it should have been a red card,” said Carragher. “The referee made a mistake and it cost Everton.”
The incident had a major impact on the match, as Liverpool went on to win 2-0. Everton were unable to get back into the game after going down to 10 men, and Dyche believes that the result would have been different if Konate had been sent off.
“It changed the game,” said Dyche. “We were in control of the game at that point and we were creating chances. If Konate had been sent off, I think the result would have been different.”
Despite his frustration with the referee’s decision, Dyche was pleased with his team’s performance and believes that they can take some positives from the match. “We played well and we created chances,” said Dyche. “We can take some positives from the game and use them to build on in the future.”
