Doak Pulls Out of Scotland U21s: Manager Explains

Date:

Ben Doak’s withdrawal from Scotland’s Under-21 squad led to speculation that he had been called up to the senior team. However, youth team manager Scot Gemmill has confirmed that Doak requested his omission in order to focus on pre-season preparations with Liverpool. Gemmill expressed his support for Doak’s decision, noting that the 17-year-old had had a hard season at Liverpool and needed to rest. Although the Scotland supporters may be disappointed, Doak’s decision to focus on his club career could pay off, as he is likely to be one of the first players back at the AXA Training Centre for pre-season on July 8. With some of Liverpool’s first team players not due back until July 11, Doak could have the chance to impress Jurgen Klopp and his staff in the early weeks of pre-season.
