Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has made his prediction for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Manchester City and Real Madrid. The first leg at the Bernabeu ended in a 1-1 draw with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Vinicius Junior, and now City are looking for revenge having crashed out of the semi-finals to Real Madrid in last season’s tournament. The Manchester club have never won the Champions League, which Pep Guardiola was tasked with delivering when he arrived in 2016.
Hamann believes that City are strong at home and it will be tough for Madrid to go there and win, but he also acknowledges that Madrid have a good team with players who can make a difference. He believes that City are favourites with the result from the first leg, but he also cautions that Real Madrid cannot be ruled out. Real Madrid went on to win the Champions League last season after dumping City out in the last four, beating Liverpool in the final.
