Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has sent a warning to Bukayo Saka, telling him that his missed penalty at West Ham will not be forgotten if the Gunners fail to win the Premier League title.
The Gunners, who are still at the top of the league, were held to a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium on Sunday after blowing a two-goal lead for the second match in a row. The result has dented Arsenal’s hopes of lifting their first Premier League trophy in 19 years, with Mikel Arteta’s side now just four points ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand and host the north London club at the Etihad on April 26.
In the 2-2 draw, Saka had the chance to put Arsenal 3-1 up before West Ham equalised but the England international missed from the spot and fired well wide.
Reflecting on Sunday’s result, Seaman told his podcast: ‘You know what, the West Ham result feels worse than the Liverpool one. They were supposed to have learned their lessons from last week. That’s what was really annoying. When you look at the defending for the penalty, I don’t know what Gabriel Magalhaes was thinking. It’s frustrating. Bukayo Saka’s penalty is a deciding moment in the game. If we don’t win the league, that will be remembered as a pivotal point.’
Seaman went on to say that Arsenal have not got enough experience and that people should not be saying that they are ‘bottling it’. He also said that their main focus should be getting a victory against Southampton and that Manchester City may have a ‘little wobble’. He concluded by saying that Arsenal are still in it and that they should not be expecting to get battered when they face City.
