Leandro Trossard, the Arsenal star, has expressed his frustration at being named on the bench for the team’s first two Premier League games of the season. The Belgian international, who has often played the role of super-sub since his arrival from Brighton, has struggled to replace Gabriel Martinelli in the starting lineup. However, former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has a different perspective on the situation. On his Seaman Says podcast, Seaman advised Trossard to stop moaning and “get on with it.” According to Seaman, competition for places is a natural part of football, and even if Trossard were to start ahead of Martinelli, the roles could easily be reversed.
Seaman also provided insight into why Arteta is reluctant to drop Martinelli. He mentioned that Martinelli has earned credit from his performances last season, during which he contributed six goals and four assists in 35 Premier League games. Arteta sees Martinelli as a more consistent performer from the start, which is why he continues to give him the nod over Trossard.
In contrast, Trossard recorded 12 goals and one assist in 34 top-flight appearances last season. Despite his desire to start games, Trossard acknowledges that it is ultimately up to the player to respond and make an impact, whether it’s as a starter or off the bench.
