David Moyes has insisted that West Ham won’t panic regarding the future of Declan Rice, despite ongoing speculation over his future.

The England international has truly established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders this season after putting in a number of consistent, top-level performances.

As a result, clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder, following an update from Fabrizio Romano stating that the 23-year-old had turned down a fresh contract offer from the Hammers.

While speculation will continue to surround the in-demand midfielder, West Ham manager Moyes says that the situation isn’t necessarily bad news for the club and their fans.

He said: “I’ve said it [where I stand] and I think we have said what we think.

“We like Dec and he’s got three-and-a-half years to go on his contract so I don’t think there is any big panic.

“Maybe he just wants more money. People do turn down contracts. It is not unusual for players at clubs to turn down contracts, maybe it is a negotiation tactic.”

Moyes was further quizzed on Rice after West Ham lost 1-0 to on Sunday and referenced the sale of Wayne Rooney during his time as Everton manager when discussing what his departure would mean for the club.

He added: “I sold Wayne Rooney and Everton got better. It doesn’t always mean that things don’t happen. We’ve said before that we’ve got no intention of selling so I don’t know why you keep asking.”

While United and Chelsea are the clubs said to be leading the hunt, Gabby Agbonlahor believes that a move to Real Madrid could be the ideal destination.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I look at Man City, they’ve got Rodri. I know Fernandinho might be leaving, but Rodri plays a lot of their games and suits the way they play. So maybe that’s not an option.

“I look at Chelsea, they can’t buy new players right now. Liverpool have got Fabinho and [Jordan] Henderson.

“Man United are probably the only club he would probably want to go to. But he wants to win trophies and play in the Champions League.

“He might even be looking at somewhere else in Europe.

“If I’m Rice, I’m not ruling out somewhere in Europe, I’m not ruling out Real Madrid.

“If you look at Toni Kroos, he’s getting on a bit, Luka Modric is still doing it but he’s getting on a bit.

“He’d rather go to Real Madrid than Man United. The players don’t look happy there [at Old Trafford] and Rice is a happy player, he looks like he’s enjoying his football at West Ham.

“Does he want to go somewhere with such negative vibes?”
