West Ham United has announced that David Moyes will be leaving the club at the end of the season when his contract expires. The decision to make this announcement came after West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Chelsea, which extended their winless streak in the Premier League to nine games. In a statement released by joint-chairman David Sullivan, he expressed gratitude to Moyes for his contribution and highlighted the progress and success the club has experienced under his management.
Moyes himself acknowledged the growth of the club during his tenure, stating that when he rejoined West Ham in 2019, they were just above the relegation zone. He emphasized the journey of achieving three consecutive seasons in Europe and thanked the players for their support and success over the past four and a half years. West Ham confirmed that they have already begun the process of finding Moyes’ successor.
According to The Athletic, former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui has agreed to take over from Moyes. This will be Moyes’ second departure from West Ham, as he previously left the club after his first stint as manager. During his second tenure, Moyes led West Ham to their first-ever European title, winning the Europa League Conference in 2023. They also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League last season and finished seventh in the Premier League, securing a spot in the UEFA Conference League for the upcoming season.
West Ham’s next match is against Luton Town, followed by a final-day fixture against Manchester City, which will be Moyes’ last game as manager. As Moyes prepares to leave West Ham, the club will undoubtedly be looking to build upon the progress and success achieved under his leadership and continue their upward trajectory in English football.
