David de Gea says Manchester United have already shown they can stand toe-to-toe with Manchester City with the two set to meet in this season’s FA Cup final. United secured a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Brighton at Wembley on Sunday evening, clinching a 7-6 win from the spot with Victor Lindelof stepping up to score the decisive spot kick after Solly March’s miss. De Gea made a number of key saves in the 120 minutes of action, having already won the Carabao Cup, United have the chance to secure a second trophy against City, who are in the hunt for the treble having closed the gap on Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
De Gea is confident his side can finish the job back at Wembley on 3 June, saying: ‘We showed already when we played against them at home that we can beat them. There is a long time until the final, we have to finish in the top four first and then go and give everything in the final.’ He continued: ‘It was a very tight game we played a very good team. Brighton play really good football. We are now in the final but we have another big game on Thursday so we need to go home and recover. They take great penalties, we take great penalties as always. I tried to put pressure on the takers, they put it away but the team took perfect penalties.’
