David de Gea, the Manchester United goalkeeper, has reportedly agreed to the terms of a new contract and is expected to sign imminently. Although the Spaniard is technically out of contract this summer, United had the option to trigger an additional 12 months. However, all parties were keen to negotiate a new, longer-term deal that would see De Gea remain at Old Trafford for several more seasons. According to The Telegraph, an agreement has now been reached and the framework of a new deal has been negotiated. De Gea, who is currently the club’s highest earner and would take home £350,000-a-week if the club qualify for the Champions League, has agreed to take a massive salary reduction. The 32-year-old will now earn a significantly lower basic salary with the deal heavily incentivised instead, with bonuses for matches played and performances in competitions.
