David Beckham’s Netflix Documentary Voted Best Sports Documentary of All Time
David Beckham’s new documentary on Netflix has been voted the best sports documentary of all time, according to a survey of British people.
‘Beckham’ Documentary Receives High Praise
The four-part documentary ‘Beckham’, which provides an in-depth look into the career of the iconic England footballer, was released in October and has quickly gained popularity among the public.
Top Three Sports Documentaries
‘Beckham’ surpassed other acclaimed sports documentaries to claim the top spot. Formula One documentary ‘Senna’ and ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ rounded out the top three.
Football and Formula One Dominate Rankings
Football and Formula One shows dominate the rankings, with ‘Alex Higgins: The People’s Champion’, ‘Break Point’, and ‘Stop at Nothing: Lance Armstrong’ also making it to the top ten. Surprisingly, Michael Jordan’s basketball series ‘The Last Dance’ only ranked 14th.
Survey Conducted by Betfair
The survey was conducted by Betfair, a leading online betting company. Betfair has recently produced a mini-documentary on Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore, set to be released on November 25th.
Sporting Documentaries Gain Popularity
The rise in interest in sporting documentaries has been significant in recent years. Nearly one in five people (19%) now consider watching a sports documentary as the main event of their Saturday night.
Furthermore, sporting documentaries have captured the attention of non-sports fans as well, with over 60% admitting to having watched a sports documentary at some point.
Future Sports Documentaries
While football and Formula One remain the most popular genres, Brits also expressed interest in seeing documentaries about athletics, tennis, and rugby.
Top Shows
Manchester United’s treble-winning team of 1999 was voted the top show, with Alex Ferguson’s historic side being a topic of conversation in Beckham’s Netflix documentary. England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning side and the dominant West Indies cricket team in the 1980s also featured in the top three.

Betfair spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom, commented on the survey results, stating, “It’s clear that we’re a nation of sports documentary lovers. They are fast becoming the new ‘go-to’ for Saturday night viewing, bringing the same levels of drama and intrigue as some of the nation’s favorite soaps.”
