Tottenham have been told they should bring back Mauricio Pochettino as their manager if Antonio Conte leaves.
Conte faces an uncertain future at the north London outfit following a poor run of form.
There is now a belief that the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss will not be at the club by the end of the season.
As a result, Danny Murphy has suggested Spurs should reunite with Mauricio Pochettino if Conte departs.
Speaking to talkSPORT on Wednesday about Conte’s situation, the former White Hart Lane midfielder said: “I’ve been torn on this subject.
“I’ve watched Tottenham a lot and there’s some good and some bad and some positives, and I know what he’s done in the past. My gut feeling, for Tottenham to move forward, is they’ll need to change.”
When asked if Spurs should reunite with Pochettino, he replied: “I love Poch.
“It wouldn’t be a bad option, would it? He’s been away, he’s learnt a bit more, worked at a different club, different players.
Conte commented on his future at Spurs on Tuesday, hinting he could leave if the club can’t improve.
“Here, I understood that my task is different. My task here is to help the club, to build a solid foundation, to create a base and then to try to improve.
“If you ask me if the challenge is to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League, this is not the task here in this moment.
“The task for me is to help the club I found. I signed a contract in November 2021 when I found the club in a difficult position for many reasons.
“Now my task, I understood it very well, is to try to help the club go in the right direction or to come back in the right direction about the choices of the players, about the work, to organise and to create a foundation.
“Now this is my big challenge here. Now if I want to stay here, then I have to accept this. Otherwise, if I don’t want to accept this then I have to go.”
Spurs are fifth in the Premier League table but are five points off the top four.
They have conceded first in all of their last ten matches across all competitions.
Conte’s side will have to face Arsenal and Manchester City later this month, with the pressure now building on the Italian.
