Daniel Podence, the winger of Wolverhampton Wanderers, has denied the accusation of spitting at Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. Referee Chris Kavanagh did not take any action after a video assistant referee check at the City Ground. Podence, 27, stated that he was accused of something he did not do. He took to Instagram to express his innocence and said that he would never do such a thing, especially to a colleague.
The Portuguese player has been given until April 12th to respond to the Football Association’s charge. The standard punishment for spitting is a six-match suspension. Wolves’ manager Julen Lopetegui expressed his confidence in Podence’s innocence and said that the club is currently working on the issue. Podence has scored six goals in the Premier League this season and Wolves will be hosting Chelsea on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
