Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was delighted with his side’s performance after they beat Leicester City 2-1 with a late winner from Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The Eagles had fallen behind to a Jamie Vardy penalty in the first half, but Wilfried Zaha equalised shortly before the break.
Hodgson, who returned to the club in 2017, praised his team for their resilience and determination to get the win.
“I’m very pleased with the performance,” he said. “We showed great character to come back from a goal down and then to go on and win it late on was a great effort from the players.”
The victory was Palace’s fourth in five Premier League matches and lifted them up to 11th in the table.
Hodgson believes that his side can continue to build on their recent form and push for a top-half finish.
“We have a lot of work to do and we’re not getting carried away,” he said. “But if we can keep up this level of performance, then I’m sure we can achieve our aim of a top-half finish.”
The result was also a boost for Hodgson, who has been under pressure in recent weeks following a run of poor results.
He paid tribute to his players for the way they responded to the challenge.
“I’m really proud of the players,” he said. “They showed great character and resilience to come back and get the win. It’s a great boost for us and I’m sure it will give us confidence going forward.”
The win was also a welcome one for Palace fans, who have had to endure a difficult season so far. Hodgson believes that the result can act as a catalyst for better things to come.
“It’s been a tough season for everyone at the club,” he said. “But this win is a sign that we can turn things around and start looking up the table. We just need to keep working hard and believing in ourselves.”
