Cristiano Ronaldo says Manchester United are stuck in the past and claims Sir Alex Ferguson ‘knows better than anyone’ how bad the situation is, while he also took aim at former interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

The Red Devils have endured five trophyless years and have not won the Premier League title since the legendary Scottish manager’s final season in charge back in 2013.

In truth, United have not mounted a genuine title challenge in that period either and Ronaldo – who returned to the club in the summer of 2021 – gave an explosive interview on Sunday lambasting the state of the team and lashing out at current manager Erik ten Hag.

Now the 37-year-old has claimed that Sir Alex is just as concerned with United as he is, and that anyone who disagrees is ‘blind’.

Asked what the former United boss thinks of the current situation, Ronaldo told Piers Morgan Uncensored: ‘He knows better than anybody that the club is not on the path they deserve to be.

‘He knows. Everyone knows. The people who don’t see that… it’s because they don’t want to see; they are blind.’

Ronaldo went on to explain how ‘dated’ he believes the club is – saying the training centre is virtually the same as when he left well over a decade ago – and highlighted the appointment of Rangnick as an example of the chaotic decisions that are being made.

He continued: ‘I don’t know what’s going on but since Sir Alex Ferguson left I saw no evolution at the club, the progress was zero.

‘For example, we have an interesting point how a club like Manchester United, after they sacked Ole, they bring sporting director Ralf Rangnick – which is something that nobody understands.

‘This guy is not even a coach. A big club like Manchester United bring in a sporting director [as coach], it surprised not only me but all of the world.

‘If you’re not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I’d never even heard of him.

‘Nothing has changed. Not the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym, even at some points the technology, the kitchen, the chefs – which I appreciate, lovely persons.

‘But they’re stuck in time, which surprised me a lot. I thought I would see different things, as I mentioned before technology, infrastructure, but unfortunately we see many things that I used to see when I was 20, 21, 22, 23. It surprised me a lot.’

Revealing how Sir Alex convinced him to snub a move to City last year, he added: ‘I followed my heart. He [Sir Alex] said to me, “It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City”, and I said, “OK, Boss.”’
