Cristian Stellini had a short spell as interim Spurs manager (Picture: Getty Images) and says that Tottenham’s season just gone was ‘crowned with a thousand problems’ during which he was Antonio Conte’s assistant, then interim manager and ultimately dismissed from the club. There was plenty of optimism at Spurs at the start of the season after they impressively qualified for the Champions League at the end of the last campaign, however it did not go well, eventually finishing eighth, losing 14 of their 38 league matches and ending the season with Ryan Mason in temporary charge. Stellini is looking on the positive side, hoping to take the positives from a difficult time of his career, which was tough for a string of reasons, including the death of Spurs coach Gian Piero Ventrone at 61 after a short battle with leukemia, as well as Conte having to have his gallbladder removed after an illness.
Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is the man tasked with turning things around for Spurs in the coming season, signing a four-year contract at the club. On his appointment earlier this month, chairman Daniel Levy said: ‘Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.’ Tottenham are also interested in signing Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho and are still in the race to sign David Raya with Brentford, although they are reluctant to meet Brentford’s asking price.
