Cristian Romero’s dad reveals Tottenham have told Argentina star to report back for Premier League duty just 72 hours after World Cup triumph – ‘He won’t have much time to enjoy himself’

Tottenham have already told Argentina defender Cristian Romero to report for training, according to his dad.

The Premier League returns eight days after the World Cup final as Spurs travel to Brentford on Boxing Day.

Romero was a key player for the Albiceleste as they secured the famous trophy in a gruelling final with France, which was settled on penalties.

The Argentine was pictured in the thick of the celebrations in Buenos Aires on Tuesday as the World Cup trophy was paraded to millions of adoring fans.

Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister has been given until the New Year to enjoy Argentina’s success, but there has allegedly been no such thoughtfulness from Tottenham.

Romero’s dad told Argentinian outlet La Voz: “He won’t have much time to enjoy himself. We’ll see how it goes.

“But they already want him back in England.”

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is known for his ruthless managerial style and Spurs are already without a number of key players.

Brazilian forward Richarlison is facing six weeks out if the hamstring injury he suffered during the World Cup is as bad as feared, while Rodrigo Bentancur will be absent for the Boxing Day trip to the Bees.

It is unclear when France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is expected back in action after his participation in Sunday’s World Cup final.
