A Battle of High-Scoring Offenses
Both the Dolphins and the Cowboys boast the top two scoring offenses in the NFL. The Dolphins average an impressive 31.5 points per game, just edging out the Cowboys’ 30.8 points per game.
Dak Prescott and the dynamic Dallas offense have put up 40 or more points five times this season. However, only one of those high-scoring games occurred on the road, and just two were against playoff-contending teams like the Rams and Seahawks. It’s worth noting that all four of the Cowboys’ losses came on the road against tough opponents.
Despite this, Prescott and his arsenal of weapons have proven successful in racking up points. The Cowboys also boast one of the league’s top scoring defenses, although their dominant performances against lower-ranked teams like the Giants, Jets, Patriots, Commanders, and Panthers may skew the statistics.
Are the Dolphins Legitimate Super Bowl Contenders?
The Dolphins currently sit atop the AFC East with a 10-4 record and are highly likely to secure a playoff spot. However, questions remain about their status as true Super Bowl contenders.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, with a 71 percent completion rate and 25 touchdowns, and receiver Tyreek Hill, with 1,542 yards and 12 touchdowns, have both been exceptional this season. However, all of Miami’s victories have come against teams with a .500 or below record. The upcoming games against the Cowboys, Ravens, and Bills will provide a clearer picture of the Dolphins’ capabilities and how their middle-of-the-road defense fares against top-tier opponents.
In Week 15, the Dolphins managed a resounding 30-0 win against the Jets even without Tyreek Hill. If Hill returns for the game against the Cowboys, his presence could be pivotal in what may turn into a high-scoring shootout. This matchup will offer valuable insights into both teams as they head towards the postseason.
