Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, is not expected to play, according to a source close to the situation. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this news on Saturday night.

Cooks, 29, suffered a slight sprain of the medial collateral ligament in one knee during the Cowboys’ 40-0 victory over the New York Giants in Week 1. In his debut season with the Cowboys, Cooks had two catches for 22 yards. He played 34 of the team’s 58 offensive snaps, making him the fourth most utilized receiver and running back on the team.

Despite not practicing last week and undergoing rehabilitation off to the side, Cooks expressed confidence in his health on Wednesday, stating that he was fine and had no limitations if he were to play. However, it seems that the team is taking a cautious approach with his injury.

Last season, during his tenure with the Houston Texans, Cooks recorded 57 catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns. He did miss four games due to a calf strain.

With Cooks sidelined, the Cowboys will rely on Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, and Jalen Brooks, who was inactive last week. They will join CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup as the team’s receiving options.

The New York Jets, who lost starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers just four snaps into their season opener against the Buffalo Bills, managed to rally for a 22-16 overtime victory. This unexpected win has given the Jets some momentum heading into their matchup against the Cowboys.

In conclusion, Brandin Cooks’ absence will be felt by the Dallas Cowboys as they face off against the New York Jets. Cooks’ injury will provide an opportunity for other receivers to step up and make an impact on the game. The Jets, coming off a surprising win, will look to capitalize on their momentum and continue their winning streak.
