Cove Rangers have been relegated from the Scottish Championship after a 2-1 home loss to Greenock Morton, which was not enough for the visitors to secure a promotion play-off place. Dougie Imrie’s men missed out on goal difference, finishing 10 goals behind fourth-placed Partick Thistle. Jack Baird opened the scoring for Morton before Declan Glass equalised for Cove. Robbie Muirhead then scored the winner for the visitors. This result means an immediate return to League 1 for Cove.
Paul Hartley, Cove Rangers manager, said: “It’s been a disappointing night but I don’t think this game is the key factor in us going down, I think it’s over the 36 games that we’ve not been good enough. As the manager coming in, I take responsibility for the results, and the players have to take responsibility too. We need a new squad to be honest with you, it’s not been good enough. Certain aspects I’ve not been happy with since I came in – attitude, leadership and the age of the team need to be better.”
The match was attended by 1,769 spectators and was officiated by Craig Napier.
