Conte suggests Richarlison undeserving of playtime after ‘selfish’ comments on poor season

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has agreed with Brazilian forward Richarlison’s assessment that he has had a “s***” season. Richarlison, who was signed from Everton for £60m last summer, has scored just two goals in 25 appearances for Spurs this season, which has been plagued by injuries. After being benched for the Champions League draw with AC Milan, Richarlison criticised Conte’s decision and said his season had been “s***”. However, Conte said that Richarlison had not criticised him and that he was right to say his season had not been good. Conte also criticised Richarlison for being selfish and said that he needed to think of the team rather than himself. He added that he needed to improve the team’s spirit and desire to win.

Conte’s comments come amid mounting speculation about his future at Spurs. He said that the most important thing was to be focused on the league and that the club knew his situation and thoughts. He added that the club needed time and patience to become competitive and fight to win, but that the environment had no patience or did not want to see the reality. Conte said he was ready to die for the club but was not too stupid to keep killing himself.
