Liverpool FC’s list of absentees continues to grow, with Dominik Szoboszlai being the latest addition. The Hungarian midfielder sustained a hamstring injury during the team’s impressive 4-2 victory over Newcastle on New Year’s Day, forcing him off the pitch after 63 minutes. This injury means that Szoboszlai will miss at least two games, with his availability for future fixtures uncertain.
Szoboszlai joins six other Liverpool players who are currently sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah will both be absent for up to eight games due to their participation in the Asian Cup and AFCON respectively.
The team is also dealing with the absence of left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, who are recovering from shoulder injuries. There are hopes that Robertson will be able to return next month. Furthermore, Joel Matip’s ACL injury suffered against Fulham last month may have marked his last game for the club, as his contract is set to expire this summer.
Spanish midfielders Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic have had a frustrating season due to their fitness issues. Thiago has not played since April, while Bajcetic has only managed to play 72 minutes so far in the 2023/24 season.
Teenager Ben Doak is also currently sidelined with a knee injury that required surgery. The extent of his absence is still uncertain.
Here is a breakdown of Liverpool’s current available squad:
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian
Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate, Quansah, Gomez, Phillips, Alexander-Arnold, Bradley, Beck, Chambers, Scanlon
Midfielders: Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Jones, Elliott, McConnell, Clark, Nyoni
Forwards: Nunez, Jota, Diaz, Gakpo, Gordon
Despite the growing list of absentees, Liverpool will continue to rely on their available squad as they navigate through upcoming fixtures.
