WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts have another issue on their hands at running back. Zack Moss, who was working with the starting offense in the absence of Jonathan Taylor, sustained a broken arm in Monday’s practice and will miss roughly four to six weeks, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Moss’ Injury and Impact on the Colts
Moss took a hit during Monday’s practice — the first day in pads — and immediately reacted, slamming his helmet and grabbing his right arm. Moss, who was traded to the Colts last season from the Buffalo Bills in a deal involving running back Nyheim Hines, is expected to be an important part of the Indianapolis running game with dual-threat quarterback Anthony Richardson in the backfield.
But Moss has had a bigger presence than expected given the status of Taylor, who remains on the physically unable to perform list and is at odds with the team over his lack of a contract extension.
Moss’ Previous Performance and Potential Replacements
A 2020 third-round pick from Utah, Moss rushed for 365 yards in eight games with the Colts last season. He’s tallied 1,282 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns in his three seasons. While he’s out of the lineup, look for third-year backup Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull to take the lead at running back for the Colts.
Recovery Timeline and Next Steps
Moss’ diagnosis was first reported by NFL Network. With a recovery timeline of four to six weeks, the Colts will need to rely on their depth at the running back position during his absence. The team’s medical staff will closely monitor Moss’ progress and work on his rehabilitation to ensure a full recovery.
The Indianapolis Colts will face a significant challenge with Zack Moss sidelined due to a broken arm. Moss, who was expected to play a crucial role in the team’s running game, will be out for approximately four to six weeks. This injury comes at a time when starting running back Jonathan Taylor is also unavailable due to contract disputes.
While Moss’ absence is undoubtedly a setback for the Colts, they have capable replacements in third-year backup Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull. Both players will have an opportunity to showcase their skills and contribute to the team’s offensive strategy.
The Colts’ coaching staff and medical team will closely monitor Moss’ recovery and provide the necessary support to ensure his return to full strength. In the meantime, the team will focus on developing alternative strategies and utilizing their depth at the running back position.
As the regular season approaches, it will be crucial for the Colts to have a healthy and productive running back group. The team’s success will depend on their ability to adapt and overcome challenges, making the most of the resources available.
